How to Enroll in an Individual Health Insurance Plan
1. Open Enrollment Period
The Open Enrollment Period typically runs from November 1 to December 15 each year. During this time, you can sign up for a new plan, change your existing plan, or renew coverage for the next year.
2. Special Enrollment Period
You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) if you experience a qualifying life event, such as:
Losing health coverage (e.g., from an employer or Medicaid)
Getting married or divorced
Having a baby or adopting a child
Moving to a new state or region
If you qualify, you can enroll outside the standard open enrollment window.
3. How to Apply
Online: Visit the ACA marketplace or an insurer’s website to browse plans and enroll online.
By Phone: Speak to a licensed insurance agent who can guide you through the process.
